The Community Foundation of Central Wisconsin, in partnership with AmeriCorps, is looking for a member to serve in a full-time, 1-year position to help us engage the community to expand our grantmaking and scholarship programs.

35-40 hours/week
Location: Stevens Point

The Community Foundation of Central Wisconsin is a nonprofit philanthropic organization committed to improving the quality of life in Portage and Waushara counties. The Foundation serves donors, community organizations, and the community at large. We work with donors to fulfill their philanthropic goals, including administering scholarships, directing grants, and building endowments for their favorite organizations and causes. Our community grants program supports efforts aimed at Arts and Culture, Education, Wellness, the Environment, and Helping People. As an inclusive community leader, the Foundation partners to educate the community and find solutions for identified community needs and opportunities.

Purpose: AmeriCorps members will provide capacity-building services to nonprofit organizations statewide. Members will focus on improving overall community health in Portage and Waushara Counties by expanding grants and scholarships addressing the conditions in which people live, work, play and seek care.

Member Duties (under the direction of the Director of Programs):

  • Research social determinants of health.
  • Design, plan, and execute community conversations.
  • Design infographics that can be used in social media, presentations, and reports.
  • Create and support social media strategy.
  • Document meetings and create needed reports.
  • Grants:
    • Research grant-making best practices.
    • Support aspects of the grant-making process, including notices for acceptance of applications, correspondence with grant recipients, maintenance and distribution of documents, and monitoring grant progress and results.
    • Document the results of completed community grants.
    • Develop knowledge and awareness of community needs and use the information gathered to inform improvements to the grant-making programs.
    • Implement improvements to the community grant-making programs.
    • Support the volunteer community grant committees.
  • Scholarships:
    • Research scholarship best practices.
    • Support aspects of the scholarship program, including application acceptance, eligibility quiz monitoring, and correspondence with scholarship applicants, donors, and educational institutions.
    • Manage applications and reports in Foundant Scholarship Lifecycle Manager (SLM).
    • Work with Scholarship Fund Representatives to ensure compliance with Scholarship Policies and Procedures.
    • Research, plan, and implement software improvements.
    • Support the volunteer scholarship committee.
    • Other related projects as needed.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Desired: Friendly and outgoing; strong written and verbal communication; competent with a variety of computer and office technology skills; experience using simple design tools and social media platforms; organized and able to prioritize; maintain a professional and confidential work environment; experience working with diverse populations and backgrounds; enthusiasm for helping others and willingness to learn. Knowledge of community-level data sources and social determinants of health is a plus, but not required.

Other Qualifications: U.S. citizen, U.S. national, or legal permanent resident alien of the United States; must satisfactorily pass criminal background checks; possess a high school diploma or GED; bachelor’s degree preferred or at least 2 years of experience in an office environment; commitment to complete the full term of service.

Term of Service: September 11, 2023-August 31, 2024

Time Requirement: Full-time, 35-40 hours/week

AmeriCorps and CFCWI Trainings:

  • Orientation training September 11-15, 2023. Virtual.  Required attendance.
  • Midterm training Spring 2024. Location TBD. Required attendance.
  • 10-15 hours of professional training focused on the Community Health Worker Model.
  • 15-20 hours of Foundational Public Health Training
  • Face-to-face or virtual check-in/mentoring meetings with the supervisor weekly.
  • Monthly Team Meetings & AmeriCorps team building are offered online on the first Thursday of each month.
  • Statewide Opening Ceremony in October offering a variety of speakers and professional development.
  • Additional topics covered include conflict resolution, career planning, leadership, disaster response (optional), and AmeriCorps policies and procedures.
  • Grant and Scholarship software training.
  • Grant-making and Scholarship program training.


  • A meaningful experience that allows you to learn new skills, take on more responsibility than a typical first job, and engage with your community in intensive and effective ways.
  • Knowledge and experience of Community Foundation, philanthropy, and non-profit work.
  • Living allowance: $21,500 FT, $15,050 TQT, or $10,750 HT
  • Post-service education award: $6,895 FT, $4,826.50 TQT, or $3,447.50 HT
  • Optional enrollment in Community Health Worker training, a 15-week online course resulting in a Certificate of Completion for ease of entry into the healthcare field. Scholarship value: $2,500.
  • Health/dental/vision insurance plan, premium paid in full by AmeriCorps (FT and TQT only)
  • Childcare assistance (income eligible), 80-100% of care costs (serving in a full-time capacity only)
  • Loan deferment and payment of interest accrued (qualified federal loans)
  • Networking opportunities during the year of service and development of references for future employment, graduate school, Peace Corps, or scholarships.

Evaluation and Reporting: Mid-term and final performance evaluations conducted by supervisor; weekly timesheets; weekly face-to-face check-ins with supervisor; Member Service Plan for tracking achieved goals; quarterly reporting on the number of volunteers recruited or managed; and completion of foundational public health training, self-paced (15-20 hrs).
