A Heartwarming Gift: Mary Hesch Brings Inspiration to GivingTuesday

Dec 3, 2024 | News & Events

Stepping inside the Central Wisconsin Symphony Orchestra (CWSO) offices brought a welcome break from the cold winter air. The space felt cozy, even amidst high ceilings stacked with colorful Scarabocchio art. CWSO board members and staff immediately greeted everyone with enthusiasm and hot chocolate, creating a familiar and inviting atmosphere even for newcomers. It was a day to celebrate something remarkable.

A Gift That Hits All the Right Notes. At the center stood Mary Hesch, whose story blends success, philanthropy, and a deep love for music. Mary’s passion for giving and her belief in the power of music came together in a special way on this GivingTuesday.

Filled with emotion, Mary presented a $10,000 check to support CWSO’s Youth Symphony Orchestra Program—a program that offers young musicians from across Central Wisconsin the chance to experience the magic of performing in a professional symphony orchestra setting.

Mary shared, “This gift helps ensure every young person has a chance to follow their love of music without anything holding them back. I really believe the arts bring needed connection and meaning to our lives.” Her donation will provide students with instruments, materials, and transportation, removing obstacles that might otherwise keep them from participating. Furthermore, Mary is committed to continuing an astonishing gift of $10,000 to different organizations every year into perpetuity, to be given through her endowed fund at the Community Foundation.

One of the primary missions of the CWSO is to provide accessible programming and musical outreach to Central Wisconsin. The students that participate in the youth symphony experience so much joy and pride when they rehearse and perform together. Mary’s vision for her giving will create even more opportunities for young musicians to flourish in our program.

Why GivingTuesday? If you know Mary, you know her generosity has a ripple effect. She isn’t content with just giving, she inspires others to do the same. That’s why she chose GivingTuesday as the ideal day to make this announcement.

GivingTuesday, a global movement launched in 2012, is a call to action for everyone to show up for their communities. Whether it’s donating to a cause, volunteering, or even just spreading kindness, it’s a reminder that generosity comes in all forms.

What’s Next? In honor of GivingTuesday, Mary’s hope is simple: that her story sparks others to take part. She’s witnessed many times that when a community comes together, incredible things happen. Just like a symphony, every contribution matters. So, what will you bring to our community symphony this GivingTuesday and the upcoming days?
