Looking Beyond the Headlines: Insights from CAPTRUST

Oct 20, 2026 | General, Investment Managers, News & Events

Turn on the news on any given day and it’s easy to find something for investors to worry about.

Inflation remains stubborn. Interest rates continue to influence markets and borrowing costs. Government debt levels have become a frequent subject of debate. Geopolitical tensions persist, and economists continue to debate the path of future growth.

The reality is that uncertainty is not new. Markets have navigated inflation, recessions, wars, political change, financial crises, and even global pandemics. Through each period, disciplined investors who remained focused on their long-term objectives were often rewarded for their patience.

That perspective is particularly important for community foundations.

The Community Foundation of Central Wisconsin stewards assets with a wide range of purposes and time horizons. Some funds support grants and community needs today. Others are designed to provide scholarships, nonprofit support, and charitable resources for generations to come.

That reality requires a different mindset than simply reacting to the latest headline.

Over the past several months, CAPTRUST has worked closely with the Community Foundation’s Investment Committee as it reviews and enhances the policies that guide the stewardship of charitable assets. One theme has consistently emerged throughout those discussions: successful investing is not about predicting the next market event. It is about maintaining a disciplined framework that can endure through many market environments.

Throughout this process, what has stood out most is the Committee’s ability to look beyond the headlines. Discussions are grounded not in short-term market forecasts, but in the Community Foundation’s mission and responsibility to future generations.

The headlines will continue to change. New risks will emerge. New uncertainties will capture investors’ attention.

Yet communities continue to grow, students continue to earn scholarships, nonprofits continue to advance their missions, and charitable assets continue to create opportunity.

Stewardship is not about reacting to every new concern. It is about maintaining a disciplined approach that allows today’s gifts to become tomorrow’s impact. That is the responsibility the Community Foundation and its Investment Committee take seriously, and it is what gives us confidence in the future.
