As we near the end of another school year, there will be graduation ceremonies and celebrations taking place over the coming weeks. We thought this would be the perfect time to highlight some of our scholarship funds.
The Iber Health Education Scholarship Fund is one of the Foundation’s longest awarding scholarship funds that still awards scholarships today. This scholarship fund was established in 1979 by the Dr. Frank Iber. His daughter, Renee Haase, recently shared with us the reason her father started this scholarship fund.
My dad was always a great supporter of helping young people go into the health field. When my dad went to medical school, he needed some financial assistance and his brother told him he would pay for his schooling if he got good grades. My dad always remembered that. He wanted to help others get their start in the medical field and this fund was his way to do that.”

The Iber Health Education Scholarship Fund was originally established as an endowment through the Central Wisconsin Health Foundation. In 1988, the Central Wisconsin Health Foundation was merged into the Foundation which moved the Iber Health Education Scholarship Fund as well.
Today, the fund provides 3 – $1,000 scholarship awards annually. Persons eligible for this scholarship include residents of Portage County who are currently enrolled in graduate level, health-related studies at an accredited school, undergraduate seniors accepted to an accredited graduate school for health-related studies, or currently practicing healthcare professionals who are pursuing education for a specialized field.
