Portage County COVID-19 Relief Fund Recipients

The Portage County COVID-19 Relief Fund (PCCRF) was established in a partnership with the Community Foundation of Central Wisconsin and the United Way of Portage County to provide flexible resources to organizations working to address critical needs due to the COVID-19 outbreak in Portage County.

The organizations listed below have been awarded funding from the Portage County COVID-19 Relief Fund. The Portage County COVID-19 Relief Fund awarded a total of $480,561 in funding to the following organizations:

Boys & Girls Club of Portage County and Stevens Point Area YMCA
A partnership between the two organizations to provide Learning Centers for students in the Stevens Point Area School District on Wednesdays for virtual learning. This will provide a safe place for students to go on Wednesdays. Meals, E-Learning support and youth development programming will be provided by trained staff and academic support from the school district.

Boys & Girls Club of Portage County
To help provide to-go meals and at-home activities for all kids in Portage County.

CAP Services
To provide direct assistance for basic needs including food insecurity, education interruption, employment reduction, housing vulnerability, medical access and childcare as individuals and families struggle with circumstances surrounding the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic.

Central Rivers Farmshed
To support the Sib Pab (Helping Hands) Meal Project that provides culturally appropriate meals to Hmong Elders in the community.

To aid local childcare agencies to ensure proper cleaning and sanitization procedures so that they can remain open and serving families in the community.

Children’s Wisconsin
To provide financial assistance and reduce stressors on households already impacted by monetary, housing and related pressures who are now disproportionately impacted by COVID-19.

Community Thrift Store of Portage County
To provide fresh produce or dairy to those in need through the Community Thrift Store Food Pantry.

Feed Our Healthcare Heroes
This project will feed healthcare workers who are directly treating COVID patients, once a week for the next three months. Many of these healthcare workers are working overtime to meet patient care needs and the goal of this project is to allow them a break to spend more time with their family.

Meals on Wheels
To provide shelf stable meals for program participants to ensure continued access to food for seniors.

ODC, Inc.
To help launch virtual services for individuals with disabilities and individuals with mental health conditions.

Operation Bootstrap
To provide food, rent, and utility assistance to individuals and families disproportionately impacted by COVID-19.

Salvation Army
To provide rent and/or mortgage assistance, as well as food baskets and gas cards or monthly bus passes to individuals and families disproportionately impacted by COVID-19.

Stevens Point Child Safety Center
To provide car seats to families in need.

Stevens Point Area YMCA
To provide childcare services to health care workers, first responders (police/fire) and other essential workers in need of childcare who are disproportionately impacted by COVID-19.

Organizations interested in reviewing application criteria and/or applying for assistance should go online to cfcwi.org. Ongoing, weekly fund requests must be submitted by 5 p.m. Wednesdays. Award decisions will be made each Friday. The goal is to move resources quickly while adapting to ever evolving needs.

Individuals in need of assistance should call the United Way 2-1-1 help line for information on programming and direct assistance with critical needs as a result of fallout due to the coronavirus. Hmong and Spanish translators are available. 2-1-1 is a free and confidential 24/7 help line.
