The Heidi Evenson Memorial Scholarship Fund

Tim and Karen Evenson envisioned the legacy they could create for their daughter, Heidi, when they established The Heidi Evenson Memorial Scholarship Fund. This fund was established by the Evenson’s in 1982 to give scholarships to young women at Stevens Point Area High School (SPASH) involved in women’s gymnastics. At 15 years old, Tim and Karen’s daughter, Heidi, tragically passed away due to an accident. This fund was created to honor her legacy.

“Very fine girl, just looking forward to life,” is how Karen described her daughter. Heidi was passionate about gymnastics and dedicated most of her time to it. The Evenson’s chose SPASH women’s gymnastics for that reason. Heidi had so much care and love for her team, “She was a people person, always concerned about her fellow gymnasts,” Karen commented. It only seemed right to the Evenson’s to continue to support the gymnasts with Heidi’s name.

This scholarship fund was one the first scholarship established at the Community Foundation. While the Evenson’s weren’t sure how the scholarship process would work because the Foundation was still in its infancy, they had confidence the Foundation would administer the scholarship according to their wishes. The Heidi Evenson Memorial Scholarship Fund was the first large donation received by the Foundation.

Tim and Karen were long-term residents of Stevens Point and were involved in many community groups at the time. They have since retired and now reside in Florida. Their vision created a legacy that has been making an impact the last 40 years.
